Apollo 53-Piece Household Tool Set with Toolbox - Essential Home Repair Kit for DIY Projects

Alright I've got this tool set sitting in front of me so I will start by going over these pieces individually and try to stay on topic (if you want to skip the specifics you can go on down to my overall opinion to get an idea):Screwdriver/Bits: Single screwdriver with 20 tips. Screwdriver is simple with a nice grip on it. Bits slid into tip and are held by magnet in screwdriver. There is a little play between the bit and screwdriver but shouldn't be so much to cause a problem. Four flat head tips, six phillips, six star, and four hex. The tips are held in two sturdy poly holders with marked sizes. The markings are slightly rubbed off but if you're buying this set you likely won't care about tip sizes. Screwdriver is NOT ratcheting as advertised on page, this is a positive for me because that is just more small pieces to fall apart.Needle Nose Pliers: Simple standard needle nose pliers. I measure 6 and 3/8" length.Precision Screwdriver Set: Simple standard "mini screwdrivers". The small case will open up on you and you will drop them though, cheap case.Adjustable wrench (Crescent wrench): Just about 6" in length, good grip handle like the pliers. Only opens up to 3/4" though so don't expect to be fixing the kitchen sink with this.Tape Measure: 12 foot tape measure, fairly small for most people but will get the job done. Plastic with metal belt clip. Looks like the Apollo logo sticker on the side will come off on your first use though.Hammer: Measures 9 1/2" in length with 7/8" face on head. I don't know how the head is connected to the handle but I don't quite trust it. I suppose it will work for small jobs like hanging a picture but I would be apprehensive about swinging this full steam into something for fear of that head flying off.Level: 9" level, magnetic strip on bottom and sight hole on top for level reading overhead. Handy little features but don't drop this plastic thing, I don't think it could handle any abuse.Allen wrenches: Standard and Metric wrenches. I like these, simple but well organized. My only grief is it is really hard to read the size markings on the side of the holders.Wrenches: Only four wrenches but cover most of the nuts you would need to hit. Open end and 12 point. Not real crisp and clean because they have a lot of markings down sides of wrenches but shouldn't effect performance.Digital Voltage Tester: Ok, this thing... I've never seen a tester like this so I had to try it out by reading the included instructions. There are three ways you can use this, measuring the voltage, testing for break-points in live wire, and testing for live wires or contacts. I didn't do the break point test but tried the other two. Testing for live wires is just a test light, I couldn't get it to work at first but then realized it was working the light is just very very dim. Finally I tried the voltage test. The tester will show you one of six approximate readouts. Blank (no voltage or no contact), 12V, 36V, 55V, 110V, 220V (Final measure represents voltage between 220-250). Here is my personal view though; if you are looking to buy this set for yourself or give as a gift I will make the assumption that you don't intend for this to be used daily. Basically the person using it isn't much of a handyman (or handywoman) so having them do anything electrical is not safe. Use it to test an outlet if you think it might be the problem to a non-working appliance but I would not trust my life to this little thing.Case: I was pleasantly surprised with this case. All plastic so broken hinges are possible. Overall it's pretty sturdy and I would trust this to handle more weight. 4 1/2" plastic flap in front opens to spots for 8 bits and a few small things. My favorite part is the two containers on the side of the lid that can slid off and be separated from the toolbox. This could come in very handy, downside is these containers don't offer much room.OVERALL OPINION: Don't expect to get a high quality tool set. I'm buying this as a gift for my girlfriend who is moving into a townhouse in a few weeks and doesn't have any tools. I would have liked to have seen a regular pair of pliers before or with the needle nose pliers. I would have also liked a regular flathead and phillips screwdriver. The bit set will work but sometimes I don't like switching those little bits if I need different tools. For the occasional use this will handle some small jobs. I know this one won't see much action because chances are if there is something broken my girlfriend will just call me to come fix it! Glad I bought it, and I hope this helps her out on her own. I will update in the next couple of months if we do use it.UPDATE: Has it been a couple months yet (~18 of 'em)? Haven't really thought of updating this review because it is exactly as expected. We've used most of the tools in this case with great success. Haven't touched the Voltage tester, probably never will. Works for the small projects and I'll still recommend it (for the right job).Great tools, bought them for my mom..! She really likes them, just what she needs for around the house.I would have given this 5 stars if the hammer was a full sized hammer. It is a tiny little hammer. Otherwise, I like it.This set's for stuff like hanging pictures, changing batteries in toys, assembling, tuning or tightening furniture, fixing little nick knacks, and generally stuff too trivial to call repairman over or pull out the big toolbox. Doesn't include plyers, pipe wrenches, etc. The lite duty hammer isn't for heavy nails, etc. (a framing/contractor hammer wouldn't even fit in box)I dislike the holder for the screwdriver bits. Can be hard to get the bits out which I find irksome. But can flip it over against a surface that OK to scratch, and push down on the rubber sleeve to make them all pop out backwards with easy grab one you need is one trick for deal with this style bit holder.Bought this kit because needed central house toolbox with tools wouldn't migrate to my other toolboxes and wherever they happen to be at a given time. This fit the bill.pro tip: i'll add an electric screwdriver to box. inexpensive and very functional, quality of life upgrade, a tool who time has come, jobs get done faster with less procrastination, is the first tool any household should have. is one kit that even includes one, but I preferred to buy this tool separate based on what I wanted.I was pleasantly surprised when I got the tools. They are cute and they are tools. I love the breast cancer cause and I love that a tool company is involved with it. I wish this smaller set had the utility knife included because I think that is definitely an essential part of even a basic tool kit, but I plan to make my own pink one somehow. They do have other sized kits that include more pink items, up to power drills etc, so if you think you want more items check out their store front.ProsTools are sturdy with a life time warrantyCase and tools are cute for girly handywomenConsI wish the case was sturdier, but if you are just keeping it under your sink for the few home projects that might come up it will do. Still wish it was sturdier though.Bought this for our 10 yo granddaughter's bithday. She has always been technically savvy and loves to help out with projects around the house. The tools are sized slightly smaller than what you buy at Lowes/HD but stll quite good quality. They definately work well now but will also be good as she grows. Each time I see her, I get to hear all about how she has used different tools to help dad.One note of caution: Since the set is not a toy, it does contain some sharp tools so take that in to consideration if buying for younger children. I did include a couple pairs of quality safety glasses and nitril work gloves with the gift.Purchased for my 6 year old daughter so she could go in the shop w dad. She loves it, however it’s is rather cheaply made (but what do u expect for the price). Several tools will probably last her for years and others will break or be rendered useless in a couple months. But it served its purpose and put a smile on my little girls face.So all in all, for a little kid that wants to work w mom or dad it’s great. For someone older it would work to hang pictures or very light duty things around home or apartmentThis is such a cute toolbox set. The tools are not cheap as some other people felt - they are not kiddie-like tools. I think the toolbox is too small though. You really can't add much extra or else the top tray will not fit. I will have to buy a bigger box, so that's disappointing but for someone starting out with nothing, this is practical. One other negative...I cannot get the screwdriver bits out of the pink rubber holder they come in lol...they're in there so tight but i bought the extra set of normal screwdrivers just to have. So while there could be some improvements made - overall, it's a good practical set.I purchased this item for myself cause my husband never puts the tools away and when I need a hammer something I can't find one. He has strict marching orders to keep his hands off my tool box! Having said that, if I had my time back I would have just gone to the store and purchased this stuff. The box is smaller than I imagined. The hammer is very small...not much weight behind it! Two days after receiving it one of the little boxes on top meant to hold nails etc. stopped closing so it can't be used. Lots of tools in the box yet pretty compact. Tools are of basic quality but I think that's the trade off with getting so many for under $50. Overall, it's very good value.
